چکیده

Abstract Background The concentration of heavy metals and their spatial distribution in surface sediments collected from the Thondi coast, Palk Bay, South India were analysed this study. sediment grain size, pH, EC, major elements (Fe, Al), metal concentrations (Mn, Cr, Zn, Cd, Ni, Cu, Pb) determined values for geoaccumulation index ( I geo ), enrichment factor (EF), potential contamination C p ecological risk (RI), (CF), modified degree (m d factors ) calculated based on background to determine pollution level study area. Multivariate analysis such as Pearson’s correlation coefficient, principal component analysis/factor (PCA/FA), cluster analysis, regression are a versatile method identifying sources determining relationship between pollutants marine sediment. Results indices, namely EF, CF, , m P RI, revealed that was due while moderate caused by Pb, Cr. matrix showed strong positive loading Cd its high Anthropogenic inputs municipal wastewater, domestic sewage discharge, fishing harbour activities, industrial aquaculture wastes led increased Moreover, load polluted metals. Conclusion findings area increases toxicity environment, thus affecting ecosystem.

Distribution of Heavy Metals in Surface Sediments of the Bay of Bengal Coast

The concentrations of major (Si, Al, Ca, Fe, and K) and minor (Cd, Mn, Ni, Pb, U, Zn, Co, Cr, As, Cu, Rb, Sr, and Zr,) elements in the surficial sediments were studied in an attempt to establish their concentration in the Bengal coast. It was revealed that the majority of the trace elements have been introduced into the Bengal marine from the riverine inflows that are also affected by the impac...

Data on heavy metal and magnetic relationships in coastal sediments from South East Coast of Tamilnadu, India

In this data, the heavy metal concentration and magnetic susceptibility in coastal sediment samples collected from Periyakalapet to Parangaipettai of East Coast of Tamilnadu using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) technique and dual frequency susceptibility meter. We aimed to (i) determine the heavy metal concentration in the sediments from Periyakalapet to Parangaipettai of East Coa...

Heavy metal pollution in intertidal sediments from Quanzhou Bay, China.

The concentrations of eight heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg, and As) in the intertidal surface sediments from Quanzhou Bay were determined to evaluate their levels and spatial distribution due to urbanization and economic development of Quanzhou region, southeast China. The ranges of the measured concentrations in the sediments are as follows: 24.8-119.7 mg/kg for Cu, 105.5-241.9 mg/kg...

Water quality and phytoplankton characteristics in the Palk Bay, southeast coast of India.

The present study was carried out to determine the water quality in terms of physicochemical characteristics and plankton distribution in the coastal waters of Kattumavadi, Palk Bay for a period of one year from April 2002 to March 2003. Air and surface water temperatures varied from 28 degrees C to 32.50 degrees C and from 27.5 to 32.0 degrees C while light extinction coefficient (LEC) varied ...
